“90% chance of being paralyzed, 50% of dying”: cyclist Nicolas Debeaumarché recounts his miraculous recovery

On August 14, during a fall on the Tour of Poland, the Cofidis rider crashed into a concrete wall. Two millimeters away, his spinal cord was severed. However, he will soon run again.
By Christophe BérardThis Monday, Nicolas Debeaumarché, the Cofidis team rider, completed a 125 km outing around Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire) with 3,800 m of elevation gain. And it's already an absolute victory for him. Six months ago, an almost banal fall, but where he crashed against a concrete wall, should have sent him to the morgue or to a wheelchair. He only had a 10% chance of coming out of it unscathed. He agreed to tell us about his Stations of the Cross, where the term miracle is not incongruous. In a few weeks, Debeaumarché will line up in a professional race. In one piece. Alive.
Do you accept the term miracle?
